Porcelain Portraits
In 2025 I made a figurative series of porcelain works, to test a variety of glazes and techniques in the gas kilns of Jingdezhen. Gradually I noticed how formal variations in color, texture and shape determined how each piece stood in playful relation to the next and to the collective whole. Shifting from assessing their individual formal qualities, I started to think about the affective resonances in between each piece. The work started to be about how these figures interact, and about thinking with the materiality of ceramics, as a way of working with relationality and difference.
