About

Correspondence I shows a month-long Tinder conversation with someone that I have never met. I chronologically ordered our entire conversation -421 screenshots- and printed this intimate yet physically absent correspondence on a bed sheet. Beyond the subtext of digitally performed identities, this work is the byproduct of dealing with loneliness|connectivity through modern means. Mundane at first glance, the installation attracted sprawling readers, and triggered dialogue among strangers about their own virtual experiences. I thus feel justified in cannibalizing a private conversation for the sake of art; The bedsheet intervened, it participated in mediating a public condition of distances.

Exhibited at Ars Avanti Gallery in February 2019, the exhibition “…but these sunsets are better” was an exercise in autonomous curation by participating artists Dani Minuskin, Andrea Garcia Vasquez , Paula Fraile and Natalia Kalicki. The four artists manifested memory, using the comfort and tensions of déjà vu to investigate narratives and strange synchronies.

An archive of collective curation is available here.
